The Phoenix metropolitan area, often referred to as The Valley of the Sun, is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the nation. The Valley is centered around four main cities which comprise the cultural and economic heart of the area; Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa. Home to 4.2 million people and including such cities as Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Surprise, the area has seen explosive development since 1990 and has consistently ranked among the top markets in population, employment, and business development growth. The area’s pro-business attitude has fostered significant expansion of the area’s universities and colleges, created one of the world’s largest and most dynamic medical research and patient care industries, fostered a booming high-tech corridor and is now working at the forefront of emerging economic engines of biotech and alternative energy.
